Have a Healthy Holiday!
The holidays are here, and we couldn’t be more excited! There’s nothing like getting together to celebrate with family and friends! But with so much activity, travel, and delicious food, it’s easy to neglect your wellness routine during the holidays.
While it’s perfectly OK to indulge during the holidays, there are a few things you can do to keep yourself feeling great through the new year. Here are our top tips and tricks to feel your best this season:
Reach for nutrient-rich food. Cookies, cakes, and pies are a delicious and inevitable part of any holiday gathering. Make it a point to look for nutrient-rich green vegetables, fruit, and lean protein at every meal. Smart snacking can help curb cravings throughout the day. You can also take supplements like Vitamin C to help your body feel more energized and serve as a first defense against seasonal colds.
Take time for yourself. In the flurry of activity around the holidays, it’s important to remember to make time for yourself to relax and unwind. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to make sure everything is perfect for friends and family, but you deserve a break! Consider scheduling a massage for tired or aching muscles. Take a walk or short run to collect your thoughts. You can even try your hand at meditation! Whatever you do, be sure to find a way to put yourself first, even in the season of giving!
Stay hydrated. Traveling has a way of making you both tired and dehydrated. Bring along a reusable water bottle and try to drink as much as possible during the day. For a flavor boost, try adding fresh fruit slices like limes, oranges, or even cucumber. It’s surprising how great you’ll feel when you’re well hydrated!
Improvise workouts on the go. You don’t need a fully-stocked gym or set of dumbbells to get a great workout! There are many exercises you can do just using your bodyweight or small, portable pieces of equipment. Get started with a custom resistance band workout we created for our blog readers. Add some variety to your routine with our variations on squats. There are even fitness apps that give you circuit exercises that make you break a sweat in under ten minutes.
Whether you’re traveling far from home or already home for the holidays, there are plenty of opportunities to find balance in your wellness routine. It’s all about finding the right routine for your fitness and lifestyle, then sticking with it long term! How do you plan to treat yourself well this holiday season?
